International Exhibition

Besides round tables, panels and conferences, the I Mobilefest - International Festival
of Mobile Art and Creativity organised an exhibition with works by the Brazilian artist Giselle Beiguelman, by designer Mieke Gerritzen and thinker Geert Lovink from The Netherlands, by the Canadian group CitySpeak CityWide and by Projeto FotoRepórter, from O Estado de São Paulo newspaper, that discussed in different ways the complex relationships between art and mobile technology.

Giselle Beiguelman is one of the most important names of arts technology in Brazil and since 2001 she has been developing projects that involve mobile communication applications. Under curator Lucas Bambozzi, the exhibition showed a brief retrospective of Giselle’s work, Antologia de Fragmentos Dispersos (Anthology of Disperse Fragments) presenting four pieces of the artist: Code-up, Wop-art, Poétrica and De Vez em Nunca.

CitySpeak CityWide project by Mobile Digital Commons Network (MDCN) was showed by Canadian artists
and researchers Jason Lewis, Lucie Bélanger and Maroussia Lévesque. The group’s proposal is to provide another kind of interactivity involving the citizens and the city space, written messages and mobile media, suggesting a sort of ephemera graffiti.

During the international seminar, the audience could send SMS by their mobiles
or PDAs connected to the Internet via wi-fi to a server. The texts sent were combined in real-time by visualisation software which then would generate a collective text to be projected at Sesc Paulista main hall. The participants could use this installation to leave their comments, tell their stories, lead conversations or simply have fun with the visual characteristics of the text.

Through the publication Mobile Minded by designer Mieke Gerritzen and thinker Geert Lovink, visitors had the chance to check some very interesting collaboration of artists and thinkers such as Armin Medosch, Mackenzie Wark, Richard
Barbrook and Sophia Drakopoilou. Mobile Minded gathers quotes, essays, statistics and factoids that reflect about the new nova art of the wireless thought.

The exhibition also displayed some of the best works of Projeto Foto Repórter
by O Estado de São Paulo newspaper, which stimulates the sending of pictures taken by readers via e-mail or mobile. Projeto FotoRepórter provides exclusive headlines as well as a positive exercise of citizenship.
