Hernani Dimantas

Hernani Dimantas is an experienced researcher who has started working with social communication and digital media back in 1987, when he concluded a specialization course in marketing, at Getulio Vargas Foundation-SP, following his graduation in Agronomy in the University of São Paulo-USP. After some years working and reflecting about the field, with a well documented history in the construction and articulation of collaborative processes and networks through the web, he collected enough material and references for his master dissertation, entitled “Linkania: the collaboration society”, defended in the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, in 2006.
Dimantas is the author of several articles and book chapters on communication, articulation, production and construction of networks, digital inclusion and other related themes, published both in scientific journal and specialized media, such as newspapers and electronic magazines. Currently, he is pursuing his PhD in Social. Communication in the University of São Paulo. He collaborates in various books about cyberculture, writes a column at Diplô-Brasil and edits comunix.org.
Also in 2006, he was appointed coordinator of the Laboratory of Digital Inclusion and Community Learning – Lidec , of the School of the Future, an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of São Paulo, Brazil’s largest and most productive centre of higher education. Composed of more than 30 researchers from different areas, the School of the Future exists since 1989 and aims to investigate how new communications and information technologies can improve learning at all educational levels.
